MoMA New York City Stores Showcase Mexican Design with ‘Destination: Mexico’ [2]
The prestigious Museum of Modern Art in New York City (MoMA), will feature Mexican design in its stores from April through June 2012. The collection of fresh Mexican design objects has been called ‘Destination: Mexico’ and will include over 100 works of design created by Mexican designers selected especially Mexican designers and MoMA experts. This unique opportunity for Mexican design [3] was born out of the success of the ‘Rethinking Tradition: Contemporary Design from Mexico’ exhibition, exhibited in the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C., from June through November 2010. The Destination: Mexico project is launched with the commercial area of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA). Destination: Mexico, which will take place from April through June 2012, will provide an important stage for highlighting products from Mexican designers in MOMA’s three stores in New York, as well as online. Centro University of design, cinema and television in Mexico was chosen to select more than 500 products from close to 300 designers who participated in the selection of products that MoMA chose.
Since 2005, MoMA New York City has undertaken the Destination: Design project, which has invited designers and artists that create everything from furniture and lighting to home accessories, prints, jewelry and clocks, personal accessories, games, and toys to present and sell their products in the prestigious stores of the museum. Previously, the MoMA has invited designers from countries and cities such as Portugal, South Korea, Berlin, Japan, and Turkey, among others.
This is an opportunity for Mexico to truly show what Mexican contemporary design has to offer. For more photos of the unique Mexican design pieces curated by MoMA, go to www.flickr.com/MexicoToday [4].
