W Hotel Opens New Luxury Hotel in Mexico City, Another in Playa del Carmen

Seven years ago, W Hotels came to Mexico with a luxury hotel in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. In addition to this luxury hotel in Mexico City, the W Hotel chain is expanding, with two new hotels – one in the Mexico City Business District of Santa Fe and the other near Playa del Carmen on the Riviera Maya. The Santa Fe hotel will host 132 guest rooms and include views of the world famous Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes. The W Retreat & Spa Kanai will feature a 180-room hotel as the centerpiece of a beachfront resort development that will include four hotels, a beach club, two golf courses and future residential housing.

The new Mexico City hotel will be part of a new, mixed-use development called Liberty Plaza, designed by Edmonds International, Krause+Sawyer and Richard Meier & Partners Architects. Meier, architect of the Getty Center in Los Angeles, also is set to design the W Retreat & Spa Kanai - Riviera Maya on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
