Starbucks to Expand Its Business in Mexico Over the Next Five Years
Specialty beverage giant Starbucks is looking to expand its current business in Mexico. The brand will extend its partnership with Alsea, the largest restaurant operator in Latin America which already operates popular fast-food franchises such as Burger King, PF Chang's China Bistro, California Pizza Kitchen and Chili's Grill & Bar.
Currently, the number of Starbucks in Mexico is close to 300 stores. Alsea will open up an additional 300 stores in Mexico over the next five years as part of Starbucks’ global expansion strategy. Alsea chief executive Fabian Gosselin expresses the company’s commitment to Starbucks, “This new organic growth plan reaffirms the confidence we have in the brand and its growth potential in the markets where we operate.”
Since Alsea first introduced Starbucks stores to Mexico in 2002, the per capita consumption of coffee in the country has more than doubled.
